Strictly speaking, the 3GS version of the Apple iPhone isn’t a new phone, but rather an upgraded version of the iPhone 3G. That’s fine, as there have been significant improvements. The biggest difference any user would notice is in the speed, which is significantly faster than its predecessor. But there have been several other tweaks, including a better camera, and now users can also shoot video (and upload to YouTube directly from the handset if they wish).
The camera now offers three megapixels, much better than the old 3G, and the focus can be altered by tapping the screen, although with built-in auto focus, it really shouldn’t be too necessary. The increased speed of the phone means that all the apps load incredibly quickly, so that gamers are going to love it.
But, of course, the Apple iPhone 3GS isn’t perfect. Although the company claims that battery life is much improved, mobile phone reviews have found the opposite to be true, especially when running several apps; then it drains far too quickly. Also, sad to say, although the Apple iPhone 3GS is a wonderful machine for so many things, the quality of its phone calls hasn’t become any better. As a phone it is still just average.
However, it’s certainly far ahead of the 3G, and that was a major innovation. With the additions Apple has brought to this new handset, as well as the huge range of apps available, Apple remains not only the name brand, but also the undisputed leader in smartphones.
