Mobile Technology

Mobile technology is precisely what the name suggests: portable knowledge of methods of production (technology).

In today’s world, the term mobile technology is more commonly used to mean the use of information technology in a portable manner. Mobile technology is therefore more widely used in the I.T. or information technology department of an organisation. Equipment that makes use of mobile technology includes personal digital assistants (PDA’s) or palmtop computers, laptop computers, global positioning system devices (GPS), wireless credit/debit card terminal equipment and mobile phones.

A major benefit of mobile technology is improved services offered to clients. To give an instance, staff can give a presentation to customers or prospective clients at the client’s preferred location. After the presentation, product material/literature can be transferred to the client’s machine. The presenter can then schedule follow-up appointments after remotely referring to his or her diary using the office network. A further benefit of mobile technology is improving customer focused services. It enables clients to make online payments without having to go to the till.

This ultimately allows for flexibility of working hours. Staff can work from home or while travelling. Powerful technological solutions can connect the staff to office networks while he or she is working offsite. The staff can create new accounts for customers, place orders online, check availability of stock and look up current rates and prices.
