The Motorola Rokr E8 is a candy bar music phone that has such good quality audio it’s almost a dedicated MP3 player. The phone is extremely slim at less than 11mm in width and it has a quite unusually styled keyboard. It needs to be illuminated by a backlight to display the characters of the virtual keyboard.
It weighs 100g and standby battery time is just under two weeks; talk time is five hours.
Other phones that have similar features to the Rokr are Sony Ericsson’s W760i and W902 and the Apple iPhone.
The W760i is the best music-playing phone and its other functions come up to scratch as well. It’s just a shame that the handset doesn’t come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The W902 is a great music phone plus it has an excellent camera. Again, as with the W760i, there’s no headphone socket.
The iPhone does not have the best quality call sound, but as an integrated mobile phone and MP3 player, it’s the top of the line.
There are currently no monthly contracts for the Rokr E8, but you can buy the handset and add a pay as you go SIM card.
The Rokr E8 was available on Amazon and the cheapest handset on that site was £57.99. It was also on sale at play.com for £84.99. The same phone was available from Prepay Mania for £109.99, as a pay as you go phone on the Orange network.
