Nokia X2 Review

What it Has

Handset deals with all of the bells and whistles that are expected in a modern, up-to-the-minute mobile phone design are the ‘in thing’, no doubt; yet, there are still those who prefer an old-school look to their mobile.  With the Nokia X2, anyone who wants that old school appearance without sacrificing many of the benefits of a sleek handset will find this a suitable and impressive option.  This Nokia mobile phone gives you a 5-megapixel camera, music keys built into the sides that allow you to skip forward and back, play/pause and control volume, and allows for an expansion of the memory up to 16 GB.  A wide range of music file formats are supported and the phone boasts an FM radio as well.  The built-in flash on the camera also can double as a torch, too, which makes it a multi-purpose mobile.

What It Lacks

It’s not a touchscreen, it’s not Wi-Fi network enabled, and in terms of specs, it’s limited.  This is the modern equivalent to one of the most simple forms of technology you can get, but for those who don’t update Twitter every five minutes and aren’t interested in apps, but still want the benefit of playing MP3’s and a decent, sleek looking phone, this is the choice for you.

Conclusion

You can get some good deals on this Nokia X2 from Virgin Mobile if you’re interested in an old-school design mobile that doesn’t offer all of the benefits of other handsets in the market.  It is what it is, and if that’s what you want, then this mobile is the way to go, but don’t expect a lot from it.

Samsung Google Nexus S Review

What It Has

The Samsung Google Nexus S is one of a kind in that it has a curved screen.  It is a comfortable fit in your palm and against the side of your face when you are talking, making it one of the more convenient handsets out there.  It’s a pleasure to use it really, and this is a feature that this reviewer really liked.  The crisp 4-inch AMOLED screen and the powerful 4Ghz processor are both excellent features that make this one of the best on the market right now.  The Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that you’ll find in this phone make it ahead of the pack in terms of features, as well.  Connect your Bluetooth, your headphones, surf the net using the Wi-Fi, and a stunning 5-megapixel camera allows you to take pictures and make video calls.

What It Lacks

As far as this reviewer is concerned, this is one of the best on the market right now.  Though there weren’t a lot of handset deals available after a little bit of research, it has all of the specs that a serious consumer in the market for a handset would want.  So as far as what it lacks…the answer is easy: not much!

Conclusion

If you want to be ahead of the pack in terms of getting the next big thing in the handset world, this is the mobile phone for you.  With a pairing of Samsung and Google, it was almost certain to be a hit.

Motorola Milestone Smartphone Review

What It Has

A lot of hype surrounded the release of this Motorola mobile phone, both in the UK and in the US, and along with those high expectations comes the threat of disappointment.  The Milestone, however, does not disappoint on very many points.  Design-wise, this mobile phone is a bit of a bore, but the 3.7-inch crystal clear screen is good, and it has multi-touch capabilities.  It is, at a risk of sounding over dramatic, a perfect high-resolution screen that instantly adds some points to the overall rating of the phone.  The apps store for the Milestone doesn’t give as many options as its iPhone equivalent, but what is offered is easy to use and covers a wide variety of functions.  The lag time on this phone is almost non-existent; it’s quick, it’s easy to read and manoeuvre around, and it makes looking for contacts and mobile browsing history simple.  The Moto Phone Portal is the iTunes equivalent for this Motorola mobile phone, and once connected to your computer, it automatically pops up in the web browser.  The 5-megapixel camera and the video functions are superb quality.

What It Lacks

Occasionally apps will freeze up and close down on you.  We’re unsure whether this is a software or hardware issue, but it’s there, so don’t be surprised if it happens to you.  While you can get some great handset deals from Vodaphone and T-Mobile on this model, the call quality is a little disappointing.  The design is more PDA-style than an Android device, but the screen makes up for that.

Conclusion

The Motorola Milestone was supposed to signal the return of the mobile giant to the over-crowded handset marketplace.  It has succeeded.

Broadband Bundles

Broadband providers often offer broadband deals to entice customers to sign up for one of their packages.  One of the most popular marketing methods is bundling other service options together with a broadband connection, for a discounted price or free perks.  This is usually beneficial for both sides, as the customers have the ease of one bill for multiple utilities, will receive some extra perks, and will pay less than they would if the services were purchased separately.

Since broadband internet service is broadcast over telephone lines, it seems common sense that telephone service should be bundled together with broadband internet service.  Broadband internet and telephone packages, often providing free or cheap evening calls, are the most popular bundle.  Other discounts for bundling phone and internet together include free calls over the weekend, free calls to a select number of specific phone numbers, or free phone rentals.

Mobile phones are typically able to access the internet, so broadband providers also have mobile phone networks and will bundle mobile broadband access with their home or business broadband connection.  To make the offer appealing, broadband providers will offer customers free or discounted text messages, additional mobile phone minutes, or other similar discounts.

Most broadband providers have packages in which more than two services can be bundled together.  Another service that is typically bundled with home internet and mobile internet services is a digital TV subscription.  Many people are now watching movies and TV shows on their computers, which makes this service a great companion to internet and phone packages.

Acer Liquid E Ferrari Mobile Phone Review

The Acer Liquid E Ferrari comes with a 3.5-inch display and a 5-mexapixal camera.  Powered by an Android 2.1 operating system under the hood, it can run circles around other mobile phones.

The 3.5-inch display screen is very colourful and very easy to type and text onto.

The 5-mexapixel camera comes with an impressive HD1080 setting.  This is fine for taking great high-resolution pictures; unfortunately, it does not shoot high definition videos and does not come with a flash.  You can take very sharp pictures, but only in the daytime or within well-lit areas.

You can use the Android player, which comes standard, or the Nemo player.  One feature of the Nemo is it can group all pictures, music, or videos together.  The sound quality is very good, and it even comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack to use with your own earphones.

The Liquid E Ferrari also comes with a Bluetooth headset, and calls made were clear and loud.

If you are a fan of the Ferrari automobile, you will love the Liquid E Ferrari’s mobile phone look.
It comes in a bright red with the Ferrari logo, in plain view on the phone and carrying case.  Its ring tone is the sound of screeching tires and passing cars.  If you are not a fan of the Ferrari, Acer’s Liquid E comes in plain white, without the logo.

Palm Pre 2 Overview

What It’s Got

The Palm Pre 2 handset offers all of the specs for someone who wants more than just the basics from their mobile phone.  A touchscreen and a QWERTY keypad are both used in unison, 3G wireless internet access gives you web browsing capabilities, and a GPS makes the usage of map apps a synch.  This reviewer found the look of this phone to be really modern and glossy, and the screen is bright and large, making it easy to navigate and a pleasure to use for all of your social networking and web browsing needs.  This mobile phone is great for the multi-tasker and the 1Ghz processor and webOS 2.0 that makes this little beauty tick are also highly functional.  HP Synergy allows you to amalgamate all of your social networking easily, keeping you abreast of what’s happening with your friends on Facebook and Twitter.  The apps made available for this model by HP and Palm are all well-integrated and shows that the companies have their fingers on the pulse of what the consumer wants in a handset deal.  For those who need to communicate quickly through IM or e-mail, the phone also offers the opportunity to create notes without having to first open an app, which saves time for all of us that are busy and on the move.

What It Lacks

It’s not an Android mobile phone but its operating system is highly functional and a good fit for this particular handset.  The 5-megapixel camera takes sharp, crisp pictures but there’s no ability to take video with this one.

Conclusion

What else can be said?  This is a great handset with a sleek look.

Apple iPhone 4 Review

Released in June 2010, the Apple iPhone 4 is the latest mobile phone from Apple.  It is a 3G smart phone, powered by the Apple 4 processor.  At a thickness of 9.3 mm, the new iPhone is sleek and trim.  It measures 11.15 cm tall and 5.86 cm wide, about the same size as other phones.

The phone comes in two memory sizes of either 16 or 32 megabytes.  It has a whopping 960 x 640-pixel resolution on its 3.5-inch screen.  The resolution is fantastic, with HD quality on videos.  One exciting new option on this phone is a second camera that uses Facetime for video calling.

The iPhone 4 features an expanded memory, enabling multiple applications to run without decreased response time and for application grouping into folders.

The improved camera features 5 megapixels, plus an LED flash for night shots.

If deciding between Android vs. iPhone, remember that the Android has a larger 4.3-inch display.  However, the Android does not offer the second camera availability featured with iPhone.  Overall, Apple has once again hit the mark with a very attractive and serviceable, though pricy, new product.  Just be cautious about the antenna in the lower corner.  If you put your hand over it, you will disconnect your call.

Deals:

Mobiles.co.uk is offering a free 16 GB handset with a 24-month plan at 45 pounds monthly, including 2000 minutes and 5000 texts.  Other plans were roughly 10 pounds less per month, but had significant fees for the handset.

Try BT Total Broadband for a great deal

BT have four great broadband deals.  The first, ‘Broadband and Evening Calls’ offers unlimited calls in evenings and at weekends, including 0845 and 0870 numbers and other call features.  Fast broadband, of up to 20Mbps, is included in this deal, which is free for the first three months, but is then £13.99 per month, plus a line rental charge from £9.99.  The contract is for 18 months and the connection charge is free.  You also have basic online security, 24/7 free customer support, up to 10Gb of monthly usage and a free wireless hub, worth £89.99.  Free Wi-Fi access and 5Gb of secure online storage are just two more of the many perks in this deal.  Separate email addresses for your household can be set up with Yahoo Email.

The second package, ‘More Broadband and Calls’, offers all of the above, except that the usage is increased to 40Gb.  Advanced security and unlimited weekend calls make this deal perfect for the family.  This package is only £7.49 for the first three months and then £17.99 for the remainder of the 18-month contract.  Again, free connection is part of the deal.  The third package ‘Unlimited Broadband and Calls’ gives you the above, but with unlimited usage.  You can download as much as you want, chat and not have to worry about exceeding your limit.  This option costs £19.99 for the first three months and then £27.99 for the rest of the contract.  The final package, ‘TV Broadband and calls’ is available for £17.99 per month on a 24-month contract.  It is ideal for those who want a little of everything.

Samsung Monte Smartphone Overview

The Samsung Monte is currently one of the most popular Samsung phones on the market.  This attractive handset offers a 3.5 inch screen, mp3 facilities and a camera amongst other things.  This brief article will tell you more about the Samsung Monte handset.

The phone enables you to customise up to three internet homepages with various widgets.  Although the technology it uses isn’t quite as smooth and efficient as android technology, it still provides an effective smartphone internet experience.  A huge plus side to the Samsung Monte is that you are able to stream programmes on iplayer, which is great for when you’re on the go.  Users who have reviewed this phone tend to rate the easy Facebook access and the iplayer, along with the overall design of the phone, especially the fact that it is lightweight.

The negative points made about this phone tend to be regarding its touchscreen and internet browsing screen.  Something to also bare in mind it that it does not offer a QWERTY keyboard when using the internet or sending a text message.  This is something which many users are likely to find very frustrating.

The Samsung Monte is considered to be a high-end, expertly functioning, attractive smartphone which can be bought affordably, or you can get it free on a monthly contract.  Contracts tend to start at around £10 per month.  If you just want the handset, this will only set you back by about £120, and is available to buy with or without a simcard.

Sony Ericsson X10 Mini-Pro Review

If you are looking for a small and stylish phone, which runs Android technology, then this might be the one for you.  Sony Ericsson has recently released the X10 mini and X10 mini-pro.  These two handsets are virtually identical.  The main difference, however, is that the mini-pro has a handy slide-out QWERTY keyboard, making texting and internet surfing that little bit easier.

What it offers
The Sony Ericsson X10 mini-pro offers a touch-screen phone which is easily to use and extremely effective.  The tiny size of the handset makes it easy to fit into your pocket, which is great for when you are on the go.  This handset offers Android technology, and they have adapted it so that it works wonderfully on the small screen of the X10 mini-pro.  Another great feature is the 5-megapixel camera, which works well in day light and in dim lighting.  Additionally there is an mp3 player and a 3.5mm headphone socket, allowing you to use whichever earphones you decide are your preference.

Drawbacks
The biggest noticeable drawback is that the tiny screen makes it difficult to use the Android technology to its full-flourishing advantage.  Additionally, the Android technology is only 1.6, and therefore already behind the times.  This means that during usage you are likely to encounter the odd bug.

Deals
This phone is available on many different contracts from networks such as 02 and orange.  Contracts start at as little as £15 per month and rise according the amount of text messages, minutes and internet surfing space you require.
