What is a Mobile Office?

A mobile office is a type of business set up that involves equipping workers with technology, skills and tools to perform their usual duties from anywhere, either in the office or out of the office. It could be at home, a customer’s location or in the office. The concept of the mobile office is also referred to as virtual office.

A mobile office can also be offices that are towable and are constructed on axle iron frames to be easily relocated. They are often found in disaster scenes or construction sites where an urgent and temporary office is required.

Increasingly in the modern world, the mobile office is automatically taken to be the virtual office. The office is used as a workspace to the sales people or staff travelling often and working away from the company office. The staff members with the mobile office are provided with the use of a portable computer, mostly a laptop that connects to the services of the company, office resources and intranet using a mobile phone, fixed connection or WiFi connection in a cybercafé, hotel and/or airport. Most people use personal information managers or PIM’s.

Since the equipment that form the mobile office are carried around, the office workers who are mobile and individuals using the equipment have continually sought for the creation and modification of ever smaller mechanical and electronic devises, also known as miniaturisation. The mobile office has led to the creation of a mobile home and secure virtual offices which are bringing down the cost of personal computers and laptops.
